    Description

    Capital Caring Health is a not-for-profit, community-based organization founded in the nation’s capital in 1977. Capital Caring Health is one of the most experienced and respected providers in the nation of advanced illness, hospice, and elder care, including primary care at home. Our care for children with life–limiting disease is one of the largest on the East Coast. Over the years, Capital Caring Health has provided hospice, palliative care, and counseling to nearly 200,000 patients and their families through our regional neighborhood network across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

    Volunteer Sewers Needed

    We are seeking skilled and detail-oriented Sewers to create custom memory bears from sentimental clothing and textiles. This role requires strong sewing skills, precision, and respect for the emotional significance of each item. The ideal candidate takes pride in craftsmanship, enjoys working independently, and understands the importance of accuracy and care when handling keepsake materials.

    Key Responsibilities

      • Sew custom memory bears using provided patterns and client-supplied clothing or fabrics
      • Carefully cut, stabilize, and assemble materials to ensure durability and high-quality finish
      • Follow specific instructions regarding layout, fabric placement, and custom details
      • Operate sewing machines and hand-sew as needed for finishing work
      • Inspect completed bears for quality, consistency, and structural integrity

    Required Skills & Qualifications

      • Proven sewing experience (machine and basic hand stitching)
      • Ability to read and follow sewing patterns and written instructions
      • Strong attention to detail and precision
      • Experience working with a variety of fabrics (knits, cottons, denim, specialty fabrics)
      • Respectful handling of sentimental and irreplaceable materials

    A practice bear will be required.
