Home Delivered Meals Driver Volunteer Position Description

    Goals of Position

Home Delivered Meals (HDM) programs prepare and regularly deliver meals to older adults, people with disabilities and others who have difficulties shopping and/or preparing food for themselves or traveling to a site where a meal is being served. HDM volunteer drivers make the program possible by consistently delivering meals on time and with a smile.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Arrive at Senior Center and begin delivery on time
    • Notify Center Food Services Manager in advance when not available to deliver a route as scheduled.
    • Notify Center Food Services Manager of any irregularities with regard to client absence, client health and client well-being
    • Maintain confidentiality
    • Be polite and smile. Yours may be the only smile your client sees today.

    Location

We have a number of senior centers in communities throughout the county. Many of these senior centers deliver meals for our Home Delivered Meals Program. Volunteers are assigned to one of these sites, and they deliver meals in that immediate area.

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Valid PA Driver’s License
    • Pass a PA State Police criminal background check
    • Pass a PA Childline Clearance.
    • Provide evidence of current, valid automobile insurance coverage.

    Time Commitment

Drivers’ schedules are determined by the Food Services Manager at the specified Senior Center in cooperation with the Driver. Meal deliveries occur on weekdays during morning hours.

    Length of Appointment

There is no specific length of appointment. Volunteers are given an opportunity to begin their volunteer work as soon as they are able after enrollment is complete and may continue until either the Volunteer or BCAAA Volunteer Program, or the site determine otherwise. If the Volunteer decides to terminate, we ask only that you give your Food Services Manager at least two weeks’ notice. You should also notify the Food Services Manager if you will be unable to make your HDM deliveries for any reason such as, travel or medical situations.

    Training & Support

Most Centers have a training program that involves shadowing an experienced driver.

    Volunteer Benefits

    • Assisted volunteer placement
    • An opportunity to use your experience and skills
    • A chance to learn something new every day
    • The satisfaction of knowing you make a positive difference in your community.
