    Position Overview

The Community Digital Engagement Manager leads SPNA’s digital presence across social and neighborhood platforms. This volunteer serves as the strategic editor and publisher of SPNA’s online voice—planning a consistent content calendar, writing and publishing posts, coordinating with volunteer content contributors, and fostering meaningful community engagement.

The role is remote-friendly and does not require live event coverage. Occasional attendance at SPNA events is encouraged to build firsthand knowledge of Stuyvesant Square Park, the organization, and the surrounding community.

    Key Responsibilities

    Content Strategy & Planning

    • Develop and maintain a weekly content calendar.
    • Align posts with SPNA events, initiatives, advocacy, and neighborhood priorities.
    • Ensure consistency in SPNA’s tone, branding, and messaging.
    • Collaborate with the Communications Chair on priorities and approvals.

    Platform Management & Community Engagement

    • Manage and grow SPNA’s core presence on Instagram and Facebook.
    • Adapt and cross-post appropriate content to X, Threads, and Bluesky.
    • Write captions and calls to action; schedule and publish posts; and keep SPNA’s Linktree current.
    • Monitor comments and direct messages, responding or routing inquiries as appropriate.
    • Tailor content to each platform’s audience while maintaining a coherent SPNA voice.

    Content Coordination

    • Coordinate with SPNA’s volunteer photographers, videographers, reporters, and other contributors to curate event, park, and neighborhood content.
    • Work with SPNA’s graphic designer when images or branded graphics require optimization before publication.
    • Use approved shared assets and maintain a clear, practical workflow for post-ready content.

    TikTok & Nextdoor Development

    • Help establish SPNA’s TikTok presence and develop a sustainable short-form video approach as content and capacity allow.
    • Help establish and maintain SPNA’s Nextdoor presence to strengthen hyperlocal communication and neighborhood participation.

    Analytics & Reporting

    • Track lightweight performance metrics, including reach, engagement, and follower growth.
    • Provide a brief monthly update during the Communications & Community Outreach Committee’s virtual meeting.
    • Recommend practical adjustments based on platform performance and community response.

    Qualifications

    • Experience managing social media accounts for a nonprofit, organization, business, campaign, or personal project.
    • Strong writing, editing, and editorial judgment.
    • Familiarity with Instagram and Facebook; interest in developing TikTok and Nextdoor is welcome.
    • Comfort with scheduling tools and basic platform analytics.
    • Organized, reliable, responsive, and collaborative.
    • Genuine interest in neighborhood life and an ability to communicate with a strong sense of place.
    • Based in New York City; familiarity with Stuyvesant Square Park or the surrounding neighborhoods is strongly preferred.

    Time Commitment

    • Approximately 3–5 hours per week.
    • Attendance at occasional virtual committee meetings.
    • Occasional additional time during major campaigns or platform launches.

    Professional Development Opportunity

This role offers hands-on leadership experience in nonprofit digital communications, editorial strategy, platform management, and community engagement. After successful service, résumé or LinkedIn accomplishments may include:

    • Led digital engagement strategy for a neighborhood nonprofit across established and emerging social platforms.
    • Developed and executed a weekly content calendar aligned with community events, advocacy, and organizational priorities.
    • Coordinated a cross-functional volunteer team and used performance data to strengthen branded, multi-platform content.

The Communications Chair is happy to serve as a professional reference for volunteers who successfully fulfill the role’s responsibilities.

    Impact

This role shapes how SPNA is seen, understood, and engaged with online. The Community Digital Engagement Manager helps increase participation, amplify neighborhood voices, and deepen the connection between Stuyvesant Square Park and the community it serves.
