WHAT TO EXPECT: VOLUNTEER APPLICATION PROCESS
Weâre here to guide you every step of the way. Getting started is simple, and weâll support you throughout the entire process.
Letâs Connect
Start by chatting with our Volunteer Coordinator. Weâll answer your questions, learn about your interests, and make sure this is a good fit for you.
Application & Background Check
Complete a volunteer application. This includes providing your Social Security Number for a Kansas state adult abuse background check.
Youâll also provide:
⢠A copy of your driverâs license
⢠Proof of auto insurance (with your name listed on the policy)
Health & Safety Requirements
To ensure the safety of our patients, volunteers complete:
⢠Drug test
⢠2-step TB test
Onboarding & Training
Youâll go through onboarding and receive training to prepare you for hospice volunteering. We also offer ongoing training and weekly volunteer meetings for continued support.
Shadowing & Support
Before visiting independently, youâll have the opportunity to shadow experienced volunteers until you feel comfortable and confident.
Youâll also have support from:
⢠Volunteer Coordinator
⢠Volunteer team
⢠Seasoned hospice IDG team (nurses, social workers, chaplains)
Start Visiting Patients
Most of your time will be spent in the communityâvisiting patients in their homes or care facilities.
A typical time commitment is:
⢠About 1 hour per week per patient
Youâll choose the patients and areas that work best for you.
You donât have to have everything figured outâweâll walk with you every step of the way.
