Healthcare Billing Specialist: Volunteer Opportunity:

Time Commitment: ~5 hours per month

Role Overview

Provide specialized consultation and support to our patient advocacy team, helping patients demystify hospital bills and understand healthcare costs. This role directly supports HHP's mission to improve health literacy around healthcare access and costs.

This is an entirely volunteer, remote-only position with flexible hours, giving preference to U.S.-based candidates.

Duties (Reporting to the Program Director/Patient Advocate Lead)

• Consultation: Consult on developing non-profit programs regarding healthcare billing and cost transparency.
• Direct Support: Assist patient advocates and patients in navigating basic health billing questions and understanding complex hospital bills.
• Workshops: Remotely join monthly workshops as an expert resource for patients.

Qualifications

Required:

• Worked experience in healthcare billing or medical coding.
• Strong communications skills.

Skills

• Intimate knowledge of healthcare billing practices (e.g., CPT codes, EOBs).
• Knowledge of healthcare assistance programs and charity care options.

Conditions of Volunteer Acceptance

• Commitment: We ask for a commitment of ~5 hours per month for at least one year to ensure continuity of care and program impact. Flexibility is available.
• Must track hours/tasks using HHP's required tools (Clockify/Trello).
