    Description

Become a Hospice Volunteer and Make a Difference | Darien, CT

Hold a hand. Share a story. Play a game. Make memories that matter.

Do you have a few hours each month to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life? Are you compassionate, dependable, and looking for a deeply rewarding experience? Hospice volunteers provide comfort, companionship, and connection to patients and families during an important stage of life.

At RVNAhealth, hospice volunteers are a vital part of our care team. Volunteers visit patients wherever they call home — including private residences, assisted living communities, and skilled nursing facilities — offering companionship, conversation, emotional support, and a caring presence.

    Volunteer visits may include:

    • Sharing conversation and life stories
    • Playing cards or games
    • Reading aloud
    • Listening to music
    • Taking short walks
    • Sitting with a patient so caregivers can rest
    • Simply being present

No medical or personal care is provided by volunteers.

    Special talents are welcome

We especially welcome volunteers who are able to share special talents with patients. Musicians, singers, massage therapists, Reiki practitioners, and certified therapy animal teams can bring meaningful comfort and joy to hospice patients and their families. Certified therapy dog teams and other pet therapy volunteers are especially encouraged to apply.

    Training and commitment

All hospice volunteers complete a comprehensive training program and screening process, including a background check, as required by law. We provide flexible scheduling and work with each volunteer to match visits based on availability, comfort level, and location. There is no strict minimum hour requirement.

For more information, please visit our volunteer page linked here, or email volunteers@rvnahealth.org.

Join us in making a difference. Your time, presence, and compassion can bring comfort and connection when it matters most.
