Habitat for Humanity of Long Island is a community-focused nonprofit organization dedicated to building strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership. Our work wouldn’t be possible without the support of dedicated volunteers who keep things running behind the scenes. Volunteers are truly the lifeblood of the organization.
Role Overview
As a Volunteer Accounting Assistant, you’ll support our team with basic financial tasks that help keep our organization running smoothly. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience, build your resume, and make a difference at the same time.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with data entry for financial transactions
- Help organize receipts, invoices, and other financial documents
- Support basic bookkeeping tasks (e.g., tracking expenses and donations)
- Assist in preparing simple financial reports
- Help ensure records are accurate and up to date
- Collaborate with team members and ask questions as needed—we’re here to support you!
What We’re Looking For
- Interest in accounting, finance, or nonprofit work
- Basic familiarity with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets)
- Attention to detail and organization skills
- Reliability and a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Willingness to learn—no advanced experience required

Requirements/Qualifications
✅ Must be 18 years of age or older
✅ You must be willing to commit time on a regular basis
✅ Strong communication and interpersonal skills
✅ Knowledge of Office365 and other computer programs is a plus.
✅ Ability to work effectively in a team environment
✅ Willingness to learn and take initiative
✅ Basic knowledge of Habitat's work and mission is a plus
✅ Passion for social impact and community service
