VOLUNTEER TAX PREPARES ARE NEEDED! United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax preparation for families and individuals with income less than $70,000 or less. Our work ensures that tax returns are accurate, and everyone receives their full refund and avoids unclaimed tax credits and fees for tax preparation services. We provided free tax assistance to Virginia residents by in-person appointment, virtual, and drop-off methods.
No prior experience necessary! We provide FREE training and a self-certification option (October - January) to become an IRS-certified tax preparer. Volunteer shifts are from (January - April). VITA offers Continuing Education credits for volunteer tax preparers that are licensed CPA’s, attorneys, and enrolled agents.
We have multiple volunteer roles available virtually and at our 13 tax sites throughout the Richmond Metropolitan area, which you can volunteer at a location that is convenient for you! We need a volunteer commitment of at least one shift per week, to ensure a successful and efficient tax season!

VITA sites need greeters/screeners, set up crews, tax preparers, and Spanish interpreters.

- SIGN UP FOR A TRAINING CLASS
Training is provided by IRS-certified tax instructors along with IRS training materials.
We will send you training class information, once you complete your volunteer interest form
and confirm your volunteer commitment for the tax season.

- PASS CERTIFICATION TESTS
Go to www.linklearncertification.com, the VITA/TCE Certification Test Site. Create an
account and take all necessary tests for your desired volunteer role(s).
All tests are open book.
