The Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement (AL!VE) is pleased to announce the call for applications for its 2027 Board of Directors.

Why Serve on the Board?

Serving on the AL!VE Board is an opportunity to shape the future of the volunteer engagement profession. Board members help strengthen the national voice for volunteer engagement, guide programs that support practitioners across the country, and ensure that AL!VE continues to grow as a trusted, innovative, and inclusive professional association.

Board service also offers meaningful professional development: you’ll expand your leadership skills, collaborate with passionate peers, and gain experience in governance, strategy, and sector‑wide impact.

Diverse Perspectives Sought

AL!VE is committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities our members serve. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, identities, career stages, and organization types. Whether you work in a small rural nonprofit, a large urban institution, government, or corporate social responsibility, your perspective strengthens our collective work.

If you are passionate about AL!VE’s mission, can commit 15–20 hours per month, and bring skills or lived experience that can advance the profession, we encourage you to apply.

About Board Service

Board members:

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the association
• Guide national programs, initiatives, and committees
• Recruit and support members
• Ensure financial sustainability and a balanced budget
• Represent AL!VE at conferences, regional events, and partner gatherings

AL!VE’s Board is active, collaborative, and mission‑driven. Terms are three years (2027–2030), with the option to serve a second term. The Board meets monthly via web‑based technology, and members typically contribute 3–4 hours per week (15–20 hours per month), including committee work and special projects.

Who is AL!VE looking for? We are committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities our members serve. AL!VE is actively seeking candidates with a wide range of experiences, identities, and skill sets — especially those not currently represented on the Board. Skills and backgrounds particularly needed include:

• Human Resources Management
• Legal
• Information Technology (IT)
• Grant Writing
• Sponsorship Development/Fundraising
• Boards & Governance
• Program Development
• Lobbying & Government Relations
• Web Design
• Finance

We are also seeking broader geographic representation, especially from the Middle Atlantic, East North Central, New England, East South Central, Mountain, and Pacific regions.

AL!VE warmly welcomes individuals who are BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, people with diverse abilities, those with varied educational backgrounds, retirees, and individuals involved in grassroots or informal volunteering. Anyone 18 years or older is invited to apply.
