    We ask that our volunteers volunteer for 3-4 hours per shift, with a cap of 2 shifts per week. Our volunteers do recurring shifts, with a day, or two days per week, selected by the volunteer to work on a weekly basis.

    Volunteer at Housing Works Thrift Shops!

    For over 25 years Housing Works has been providing lifesaving services to New Yorkers living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and homelessness.

    To help fund these efforts, Housing Works operates a variety of entrepreneurial businesses, including ten Thrift Shops (7 in Manhattan, 2 in Brooklyn) and our SoHo Bookstore Café, and holds several major fundraising events. Volunteers are pivotal to the Housing Works mission of providing lifesaving services to New Yorkers living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and homelessness.

    Volunteers can offer valuable support in many different areas:

    Weekly:

    Thrift Shops & Bookstore (1 shift per week) Contribute 3-4 hours once a week and join a community of thousands supporting our mission.

      • Bookstore: High need for volunteers. Enjoy a mix of literature and fashion? You can offer much-needed support to the Housing Works Bookstore and assist with our large selection of literature and thrifted clothing!
      • Thrift Shops: Join your local Housing Works thrift shop and play an important part in the fight against HIV/AIDS & Homelessness.
      • Volunteers receive a 25% discount (extends to all shops after 90 days).

    Monthly:

    Special Events & Projects (1 shift per month) Contribute 3–4 hours once a month at our fundraising events. Your presence is vital for creating great experiences for our community.

      • Attend vibrant sales events with food & music! 100% of the proceeds go back into Housing Works lifesaving services.
      • Volunteers receive a 25% discount at the event location.
