Welcome Home Basics: Help Us Welcome New Neighbors

    Welcome Home Basics Program

Help Turn an Empty Apartment into a True Home

For many of our new neighbors, moving into a Foundation Communities property represents a hard‑earned fresh start. We strive to offer more than four walls — we aim to provide a safe, stable, and welcoming home equipped with the essentials needed to succeed from day one.

Many of our residents are veterans, individuals who were previously unhoused, people living with mental or physical disabilities, or neighbors who have escaped unsafe living situations. Your generosity ensures that their first day in their new home is filled with comfort, dignity, and hope.

How You Can Get Involved (Choose Your Path)

We have two impactful ways for individuals, families, community groups, or corporate teams to join us in welcoming our neighbors:

    Option 1: Fulfill a Family's Wishlist

    • The Role: Purchase essential household items requested by a specific family and deliver them directly to their new property.
    • The Scope: We support 15 properties across Austin, so you can likely help a neighbor right in your own community.

Option 2: Donate to Our Support Supply Closets

    • The Role: Donate bulk or individual items to our single supportive housing supply closets. These items ensure that everyday essentials are available the moment a resident moves in.
    • The Scope: We maintain supply closets at 9 properties citywide.

Essential Household Items Needed (New Only)

We welcome both wishlist fulfillment and general donations of:

    • Bedding — Sheets, pillows, blankets, comforters
    • Kitchen Supplies — Pots, pans, plates, cups, eating & cooking utensils
    • Bathroom Necessities — Towels, washcloths, shower curtains, plungers, scrubs
    • Cleaning Supplies — Brooms, mops, disinfectants, cleaning towels, laundry detergent

    Time Commitment & Sponsorships

    • Completely Flexible
      • This can be a one‑time project or an ongoing partnership — whatever works for you.
    • Sponsorship Opportunities
      • Individuals, families, or organizations can “adopt” a community and provide support on a schedule you choose. Prefer flexibility? You can also support whichever property has the highest need at the moment.
