    Are you a persuasive writer with a passion for global social justice? Women Empowered International (WEI) seeks a detail-oriented Volunteer Grant Writer to join our remote Development team. You will be instrumental in securing the funding necessary to empower women and girls worldwide by translating our life-changing programs into compelling proposals for institutional funders.

    Position Summary

    The Volunteer Grant Writer is responsible for the research, preparation, and submission of compelling grant proposals and letters of inquiry to foundations and corporations. This role requires strong writing and research skills to effectively communicate WEI’s mission, impact, and funding needs to prospective institutional donors.

    Key Responsibilities

    Grant Prospecting and Research

    • Identify Opportunities: Research and qualify new grant prospects from private foundations, corporate foundations, and online databases that align with WEI’s mission and funding needs.
    • Maintain Records: Work with the Development team to track submission requirements, deadlines, and contact information for new and existing institutional donors.

    Proposal Development and Writing

    Draft Proposals: Write and edit clear, persuasive, and technically accurate grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and supporting narratives.

    • Narrative Development: Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to gather current program data, metrics, and success stories to integrate into funding proposals.
    • Document Preparation: Ensure all supporting documents (budgets, financials, program summaries) are compiled accurately for submission.

    Reporting and Follow-up

    • Grant Compliance: Assist in tracking grant obligations and preparing interim or final reports to funders, ensuring timely and complete submission.
    • Stewardship Support: Write thank-you letters and acknowledgment materials for grants received.

    Qualifications

    Writing Excellence: Exceptional persuasive writing and editing skills with a talent for clear, compelling storytelling.

    Proven experience (paid or volunteer) in grant writing with a track record of securing institutional funding.

    Research: Strong internet research skills, particularly for identifying potential institutional funders.

    Familiarity with non-profit grant databases (e.g., Candid/Foundation Directory Online) and proposal formats.

    Detail & Organization: Strong attention to detail and ability to organize complex information and adhere strictly to deadlines.

    Experience working with or writing for international development organizations.

    Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word) or Google Docs.
