Description
Step into Tech, a paid work-based learning opportunity connecting justice involved and impacted individuals 18-35 to pathways in to careers in tech. Sign up to volunteer as a mentor!
Why: Mentors play a crucial role in personal and professional development for several reasons including but not limited to supporting a mentee's growth, serving as a source of knowledge, helping to set goals, maintaining accountability, offering encouragement, and making connections.
Who: An important part of UNITE-LA’s mission is to improve career and post-secondary outcomes for L.A.’s youth and young adults through college access, career pathway, workforce programming and job/internship opportunities.
What to Expect: We will host a volunteer orientation and provide instruction before meeting with participants.
The mentor (YOU):
- Provide support and guidance with resumes, interviewing skills, professional development, and career and education guidance.
- Will support the participant with personal and professional development as needed
- Will provide feedback to the student with actionable plans to further their career goals
- Each mentor session should take no more than 1 hour
What's Required:
- Time Commitment: 3 Virtual Sessions, 60 minutes each. Scheduled twice over the 5-week period (March 11th - April 17th), and a third time after.
- No tech background required.
- Volunteer mentors for Step into Tech must possess patience, empathy, and a willingness to guide individuals through their career journey.
- Commitment to meetings and open communication are essential.
- Passion for supporting young adults on their pathway to success
