    Description

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

    1. Helping the farm staff to tend to fields, greenhouses and tunnel crops by weeding, composting, and planting. Assisting with seeding, transplanting, and watering.
    2. Supporting with animal feed and care (chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, pigs), educational programming, and event set up and tear down.
    3. General grounds maintenance through mowing lawns, maintenance of buildings, minor landscaping, site help, trail clearing etc.

Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment: Depending on the role, volunteers may need very little understanding, as long as they are able to follow clear instructions. Those with skills in certain areas can certainly support more challenging roles.

Who will be served by this assignment? A large portion of our produce is donated to schools and food banks and food pantries in Northeastern Ohio, we also teamwork with other non-profits and charitable groups within the area.

What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service? We provide director nutrition assistance to hundreds of families in our region each year thanks in large part to volunteers helping us. Volunteer assistance gives us room to increase our capacity to donate, and educate the importance of, sustainable, organic food.

What specific skills will the volunteer need? Depending on the task required on a given day, a volunteer may be asked to lift up to 25 pounds, crouch down to tend to crops, and work outside in the heat/cold, and on uneven terrain. There are ways to accommodate for individuals not able to physically perform tasks the same way as our farm and program team.
