    Role Overview

We are seeking a Media & Press Manager to lead media outreach, press engagement, and external storytelling.

This role ensures that MAP’s voice is clearly and consistently represented in media spaces—through strategic press engagement, messaging alignment, and thoughtful storytelling.

    • Ensure all media communications align with MAP’s voice and messaging framework
    • Prepare talking points and materials for interviews and public appearances

    External Voice & Representation

    • Ensure consistency in how MAP is represented across media platforms
    • Align press engagement with organizational priorities and messaging
    • Support storytelling that reflects impact, dignity, and lived experience

    Cross-Team Coordination

    • Work closely with PromisePublic to align with advocacy and policy priorities
    • Collaborate with PromiseStudios and PromisePress on storytelling and content
    • Ensure messaging consistency across all external communications

    Tracking & Systems

    • Track media coverage and maintain press contact databases
    • Monitor media engagement and visibility opportunities
    • Maintain organized documentation of outreach and results

    Communication & Responsiveness

    • Ensure timely and professional responses to media inquiries
    • Support internal coordination for media opportunities
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Experience in media relations, communications, or public affairs
    • Strong writing and messaging skills
    • Ability to build and manage external relationships
    • Strong organizational and coordination abilities
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Experience working with press or journalists
    • Experience writing press releases or media pitches
    • Familiarity with nonprofit or advocacy communications
    • Experience supporting interviews or media preparation

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Hybrid / remote with optional NYC-based collaboration

    What You’ll Gain

    • Experience leading media and press strategy within a communications division
    • Opportunity to shape how MAP is represented publicly
    • Collaboration with communications, storytelling, and advocacy teams
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • A meaningful role amplifying voice, visibility, and impact

    How to Apply

Interested candidates must apply directly through Idealist and submit:

    • Resume (required)
    • Cover letter (required) describing relevant experience in media, press, or communications and interest in MAP’s mission
