    Description

Seeking Norfolk County Volunteers to Drive Veterans to Medical Appointments

Help Veterans Access Medical Care & Essential Appointments

Norfolk County RSVP is seeking volunteers age 55 and older to provide transportation for local Veterans who need help getting to medical appointments and other necessary trips. Many Veterans cannot drive or cannot afford expensive transportation options, and your assistance ensures they receive the care and services they need.

Volunteers use their own vehicle, with supplemental liability insurance provided by RSVP and mileage reimbursement at $0.40 per mile.

    What You’ll Do

As a Veteran Medical Ride Volunteer Driver, you will:

    • Drive Veterans to medical appointments and essential errands
    • Offer polite, supportive assistance throughout the trip
    • Ensure timely and safe transportation
    • Choose rides based on your location, availability, and interest

    Ride Details

    • Drivers self‑select trip requests — drive when, where, and as often as you choose
    • Trips may be local within Norfolk County or to VA hospitals, including:
      • Jamaica Plain VA Medical Center
      • West Roxbury VA Medical Center
      • Brockton VA Medical Center
    • Riders must be able to get in and out of the car independently or bring a caregiver

    Safety Protocols

For the well‑being of drivers and riders, all volunteers must:

    • Wear a mask during rides
    • Use hand sanitizer before entering the vehicle
    • Follow common‑sense hygiene and safety measures

    Requirements

    Volunteers must:

    • Be age 55 or older
    • Hold a valid Massachusetts driver’s license
    • Have a reliable car
    • Complete a background check

    Mileage Reimbursement

    • Drivers receive $0.40 per mile for all approved trips
    • Supplemental liability insurance is provided by RSVP while on duty

    Who Should Apply

This opportunity is ideal for volunteers who:

    • Enjoy driving and want a flexible schedule
    • Want to directly support Veterans in their community
    • Prefer low‑commitment, high‑impact service
    • Value meaningful one‑on‑one interactions
