    Description

Board of Trustees Member – Hill View Montessori Charter Public School (Haverhill, MA)

Hill View Montessori Charter Public School (HVM) is a tuition-free public Montessori school serving 306 students in grades K–8 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Founded in 2003, HVM is committed to providing an authentic Montessori education that empowers every child to reach their full potential — regardless of background or zip code.

We are seeking dedicated, mission-driven community members to join our Board of Trustees. HVM's Board provides strategic leadership and governance oversight for the school, working in close partnership with the Executive Director and school leadership team. Board members serve as ambassadors for HVM's mission and play a vital role in shaping the school's future — including an exciting potential expansion of our Pre-Kindergarten program.

We are actively seeking candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

    • Financial Oversight — CPAs, CFOs, bank officers, or financial professionals with experience in nonprofit or public school finance, budgeting, and audit oversight
    • Development & Fundraising — professionals with experience in nonprofit development, grant writing, donor relations, or corporate partnerships
    • Data Analysis — individuals with experience in data science, program evaluation, or educational accountability metrics who can support HVM's continuous improvement efforts
    • Academic Accountability — current or retired educators, school administrators, or education policy professionals who can help HVM evaluate curriculum outcomes and student performance
    • Legal — attorneys with experience in nonprofit law, education law, employment law, or real estate who can provide legal perspective on board decisions

Prior board experience is helpful but not required — we provide onboarding and orientation for all new members.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Attend monthly Board of Trustees meetings (typically held on the second Thursday of each month, evening)
    • Serve on at least one standing committee aligned with your area of expertise
    • Support HVM's strategic planning, financial oversight, and policy governance
    • Act as an ambassador for HVM in the Haverhill and greater Merrimack Valley community
    • Participate in fundraising and development efforts, including our annual fundraiser
    • Uphold HVM's charter obligations and ensure compliance with Massachusetts charter school law

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Commitment to HVM's mission of tuition-free public Montessori education
    • Professional experience in at least one of the areas listed above (finance, development, data analysis, academic accountability, or law)
    • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
    • Ability to commit 5–8 hours per month including meetings and committee work
    • Residents of the greater Haverhill/Merrimack Valley area preferred, though candidates from across Massachusetts are welcome
    • Must be 18 years of age or older

    WHAT YOU'LL GAIN:

    • A meaningful leadership role in a thriving public Montessori school community
    • The opportunity to directly impact 306+ students and their families
    • Experience in nonprofit governance, charter school policy, and Montessori education
    • A collaborative, welcoming board culture committed to HVM's long-term success

    Interested candidates should submit:
