    Description

Be a Technology Coach for Seniors Learning Android Devices!

Are you interested in working with individuals who are learning basic technology skills? Do you have personal or professional experience in teaching or mentoring?

If so, then please consider volunteering to become a Computer Class Coach for our Android mobile device classes at the library's Arlington Heights Senior Center location. Our classes are small by design with only 4-6 students who range in ability from first-ever smartphone users to current users who want to learn more. Coaches assist the instructor with lessons from standard materials developed by library staff on Android mobile devices. Classes are offered on weekdays from either 9-11 a.m. or 2-4 p.m.; the exact dates are determined by instructor and coach availability. Due to the public service nature of this role, we prefer individuals who can commit to at least one class per month throughout the year.

What qualities do we look for in a Computer Class Coach?

    An individual who:

    • Can communicate effectively with adult learners in a classroom setting.
    • Is flexible and patient when working with varying ability levels of participants.
    • Can work cooperatively with a classroom instructor and library staff.

    What is the time commitment?

    • Classes are 2 hours long and are held on weekdays from either 9-11 a.m. or 2-4 p.m. at the Arlington Heights Senior Center (1801 W. Central Rd.); the exact days are determined by the class schedule.
    • This is an on-going public service position; consistent attendance is required.
