    Description

    About the Role

As a Postpartum Family Support Volunteer with The Holding Circle, you become part of the village that every new parent deserves but too few have access to. You'll visit families in their homes during the vulnerable early weeks of parenthood, offering practical help, a warm presence, and the kind of care that makes a lasting difference. This is hands-on, heart-centered work — and it matters deeply.

    Responsibilities

Volunteers will visit assigned families in their homes and provide support that may include:

    • Light meal preparation to help nourish recovering parents
    • Newborn care assistance so parents can rest and recharge
    • Light household tasks to ease the burden of daily life
    • Companionship and emotional support to reduce isolation
    • Connecting families with community resources when additional needs arise
    • Reporting any concerns to The Holding Circle coordinator in a timely manner

    Qualifications

    • Personal experience with parenting or caregiving (professional or lived) is required
    • Warm, non-judgmental, and culturally sensitive approach to working with diverse families
    • Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to scheduled home visits
    • Comfortable working independently in a home setting
    • Must successfully complete a background check prior to placement
    • Completion of The Holding Circle's volunteer orientation and training is required before your first visit
    • Reliable transportation required

    Time Commitment

Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one visit per week (approximately 2–4 hours per visit) for the duration of their assigned family's support period. Scheduling is flexible and coordinated directly with families and our program staff.

    Location

In-home visits with families located throughout Broward County, FL.

    What You'll Gain

This is a rare opportunity to be part of a community-rooted, mission-driven pilot program from the very beginning. You'll receive volunteer training, ongoing support from our team, and the profound experience of showing up for a family when it matters most.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with The Holding Circle! We are so glad you're here. Before applying, please take a moment to review the following:

    Read Before You Apply

Please visit our website at www.theholdingcircle.org to familiarize yourself with our mission, the families we serve, and the type of support we provide. We want every volunteer to feel confident and clear about what this role involves before stepping into a family's home.

What to Expect After You Apply

Once we receive your application, a member of our team will reach out within 5–7 business days to schedule a brief introductory call. This is a chance for us to get to know you and for you to ask any questions. All selected volunteers will be required to complete a background check and attend a mandatory orientation session before their first visit.

    Additional Documents

If you have any of the following, we welcome you to upload or email them to us at ruthann@theholdingcircle.org in PDF format:

    • A resume or summary of any relevant caregiving, social work, or healthcare experience
    • Any certifications such as CPR, first aid, or newborn care training

None of these documents are required to apply, but they may help us match you with the right family more quickly.

We are currently launching our Broward County pilot, which means you would be joining The Holding Circle at a truly foundational moment.
