    Description

    🌿 A Little History… A Big Purpose

Hospice began as a movement of compassion—not medicine.

In the 1960s, Dame Cicely Saunders, a nurse and physician, reimagined care for those at the end of life. She believed people deserved comfort, dignity, and to be seen as whole human beings—not just patients.

Volunteers were part of hospice from the very beginning.

Neighbors. Friends. Ordinary people doing extraordinary things—simply by showing up.

Today, that same philosophy lives on.

    And it’s so essential… it’s now required.

🏛️ Who Requires Hospice to Have Volunteers?

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)

Under the Medicare Hospice Conditions of Participation (CoPs)

Because hospice isn’t just medical care—it’s human care.

💛 Hospice Volunteers Make the Difference

    • Sit with patients and offer companionship
    • Read, talk, share stories, or simply be present
    • Support caregivers so they can rest
    • Create meaningful moments in someone’s final chapter

No medical experience needed—just a kind heart and consistency.

Hospice is required to have volunteers…

But patients are waiting for the right one.

    Are you the right one?

    Will you answer the call?

    Do you have an hour?

Do you have a heart that can sit… listen… and simply be present?

    Because that’s all it takes.

    Not perfection.

    Not medical experience.

    Not the right words.

    Just you.

    One hour.

    One visit.

One moment that someone will never forget.
