For an active retiree, volunteering can fit into a life that’s already full. One hour a week leaves room for family, hobbies, travel, and rest while giving them a regular chance to connect with someone.

People volunteer for different reasons. Some miss the sense of purpose and routine they had at work. Some enjoy meeting people and hearing their stories. Others have experienced hospice with someone they love and want to offer that same kindness to another family.

What they may gain is a real relationship and the feeling that their time matters. A visit might mean conversation, a game, looking through photos, or simply sitting together. The volunteer gives companionship, and often leaves with a story, a smile, or a new friendship of their own.
