The volunteer Athlete Leadership Coordinator for Special Olympics oversees local athlete training, skill development, and meaningful role placements. [1]
Position Overview
- Role Type: Volunteer leadership, strategic planning, and program advocacy.
- Commitment: Long-term commitment involving regular local meetings, mentor check-ins, and event support.
- Goal: Empower Special Olympics athletes to serve as speakers, coaches, board members, and committee leaders. [1, 2, 3]
Core Responsibilities
- Program Management: Oversee all local components of the Athlete Leadership initiative within the assigned area.
- Skill Development: Support training curricula covering personal development, communication, and governance.
- Role Placement: Match trained athlete leaders with meaningful volunteer, coaching, or administrative assignments.
- Advocacy & Inclusion: Serve on the local leadership team to promote inclusive environments and ensure athlete voices guide decisions.
Key Qualifications
- Strong commitment to inclusion and the Special Olympics mission.
- Excellent communication, mentoring, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with athletes, families, and regional staff
