    About GreenFaith

GreenFaith is a global, multifaith climate and environmental organization building a movement of people of faith and spirit who take action for climate justice. We bring together faith, spirituality, organizing, and advocacy to challenge the systems driving the climate crisis and build a just, sustainable future.

    About the Role

GreenFaith is seeking volunteers to join our Communications Committee and help strengthen our ability to respond creatively and quickly to the climate-related issues shaping our communities and the public conversation.

Communications Committee members will help GreenFaith identify emerging news, online conversations, and narratives where a faith-based and eco-spiritual perspective can make a meaningful contribution. Members will work alongside GreenFaith's Digital Organizer to turn these opportunities into compelling content, earned media, and organic digital engagement.

This is a hands-on volunteer role for people interested in the intersection of communications, climate justice, faith and spirituality, and digital organizing.

    Key Responsibilities

    Communications Committee members may:

    • Monitor emerging news, cultural conversations, social media trends, and narratives relevant to GreenFaith's mission and identify opportunities for timely engagement.
    • Help develop GreenFaith's eco-spiritual response to current events through social media content, commentary, messaging, and other creative communications.
    • Support content creation, including drafting social posts, short-form copy and video,, talking points, graphics concepts, and other digital materials.
    • Help draft, edit, and pitch op-eds, letters, and other earned-media content to relevant publications.
    • Develop and test messages for popularity, uptake in sermons and public actions. Explore messaging that remains clearly faith/ethics-rooted and that addresses the intersections between climate, economic inequality, migration, and human dignity.
    • Support organic engagement in online communities, including appropriately sharing GreenFaith's campaigns, resources, and opportunities in relevant social media groups, pages, listservs, and digital channels.
    • Identify opportunities for GreenFaith to participate in or amplify conversations happening across faith, climate, justice, and movement spaces.
    • Support the Digital Organizer in implementing GreenFaith's broader Communications Strategy.
    • Participate in Communications Committee discussions and contribute ideas for strengthening GreenFaith's digital presence and storytelling.

    Who We're Looking For

You don't need to be a communications professional, but you should bring:

    • Relevant professional, volunteer, academic, or organizing experience in communications, digital media, journalism, public relations, social media, storytelling, or a related area.
    • A strong commitment to GreenFaith's mission, vision, and values.
    • An interest in communicating about climate and justice through faith, moral, spiritual, or eco-spiritual perspectives.
    • Strong written communication skills and an ability to communicate clearly to different audiences.
    • Awareness of digital culture, current events, and how narratives develop across online communities.
    • An ability to collaborate, receive feedback, and contribute reliably within a volunteer team.

    Time Commitment

Approximately 5 hours per month, including committee participation and flexible communications projects. Much of the work can be completed asynchronously and remotely.

    Why Join?

This is an opportunity to use your communications skills to help shape how a multifaith climate movement responds to the defining issues of our time. Volunteers will gain hands-on experience in movement communications while collaborating with organizers and other communicators working at the intersection of faith, climate justice, and social change.
