    Description

Raised Bed Rebuilding: Saturday, March 21st, 2026 10AM-1PM Mid Shooks Run Community Garden

Mid Shooks Run Community Garden is hosting a series of early-season work days to prepare the garden for the growing season, and we’re looking for volunteers to help with an important infrastructure project.

On Sunday, March 15, volunteers will help replace the aging wood framing around our raised garden beds and add fresh soil to bring them up to a new 12-inch depth. This project will improve the durability of the beds and provide gardeners with deeper, healthier growing space for the season ahead.

This event is one of four volunteer opportunities to help with this project. If this date doesn’t work for you, you are welcome to join us at any of the other work days taking place over the next two weekends.

    Responsibilities

Volunteers will work alongside garden leaders and community members on tasks such as:

    • Removing old raised-bed boards
    • Installing new lumber and fastening boards
    • Checking beds for square and level
    • Shoveling and distributing soil to top off beds
    • General site cleanup and organization

We’ll provide guidance and demonstrate tasks, so no prior experience is required.

    Qualifications

We welcome volunteers of all skill levels. Ideal volunteers will:

    • Be comfortable working outdoors for a few hours
    • Be willing to do light to moderate physical activity (lifting boards, shoveling soil, etc.)
    • Be able to follow basic safety instructions and work collaboratively with others
    • Have a positive attitude and willingness to pitch in where needed

    What to Bring

    If possible, please bring:

    • Work gloves
    • Closed-toe shoes or boots
    • A hat, sunscreen, and water bottle
    • Any helpful tools you may have (shovels, cordless drills/drivers with bits, levels, tape measures, squares, rubber mallets, or wheelbarrows)

Tools are helpful but not required—you can still participate if you don’t have any.

    Why Volunteer?

This is a great opportunity to:

    • Support a local community garden
    • Meet neighbors and fellow volunteers
    • Spend time outdoors
    • Make a visible impact in just a few hours of work

This event is part of a four-day volunteer series to complete the raised bed improvements. You’re welcome to attend any of the following work days:

(Links to register for each event are available above.)
