At Gentiva Hospice, we believe that the end of life is not merely a clinical event, but a profound and sacred passage. We are seeking compassionate, presence-centered individuals to join our team as Hospice Volunteers.
In this role, your primary purpose is to support patients and their families in by becoming a companion for those navigating their final chapter with dignity, reverence and grace.
Core responsibilities include:
-Presence and Companionship; providing a calm, non-judgmental presence. This may involve deep listening to life stories, reading aloud, playing music, or simply sitting in "sacred silence".
-Celebrating the Life Lived; assist patients and families that may want to look through photo albums and talk about their life stories.
-Respite Support; offer family caregivers the gift of time by staying with the patient so they can run errands, attend a dr. appointment, or have lunch with a friend.
-Honoring the Transition; provide companionship, ensuring the patient feels supported and cared for.
Qualifications
We are looking for individuals who view death as a natural and significant part of the human experience. Emotional maturity, deep empathy, respect for diversity, and reliability are non-negotiable.
Requirements
-Successful completion of a criminal background check and required health screenings (TB test).
-Training; attend a day of onsite training in Clinton Township
-Commitment; a willingness to serve for at least one year is preferred to ensure continuity of care.
