    Description

Do you want to make an immediate difference in the lives of children and parents, while creating lasting, intergenerational change for families in New York City and beyond? If so, we hope you will join us at The Children's Storefront!

The Children’s Storefront works with families to promote healthy brain development in children’s first 1,000 days of life (birth to three years). While these critical early years are the single best opportunity we have to build the foundation for lifelong learning and health, parents often cannot access the information and tools they need to build their babies’ brains. Based in Harlem, our free-of-charge program combines community building and Harvard University's "Serve and Return" framework, making the science behind childhood brain development accessible, actionable, and fun!

Our nonprofit is at a critical and exciting juncture, with new leadership, community demand for our program, and the potential for major growth. At this moment, we aim to expand our small but mighty board of deeply dedicated individuals and tap into new areas of expertise and communities of supporters to accelerate our progress.

    What We're Looking For

We hope to connect with individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and their families. With an intentional focus on building a board that reflects the full diversity of the community we serve, we seek individuals with expertise and connections to help us grow our impact.

    Board Responsibilities & Expectations

As a member of our Board, you will serve as a high-level steward of our mission, ensuring The Storefront remains financially healthy, legally compliant, and strategically focused on the families we serve, and those we have yet to serve.

The following are the core expectations of Board Members:

    • Ensure Integrity. Uphold the legal and ethical accountability of the organization.
    • Participate actively. Prepare for and attend six Board meetings annually and serve on two committees (approx. 1–2 hours per month).
    • Be an ambassador. Increase The Storefront’s visibility within your professional and personal networks.
    • Support our work. Make an annual financial contribution at a level that is personally meaningful to you. We ask that this gift reflect your commitment by placing The Children’s Storefront among your top three philanthropic priorities.
    • Make introductions & mobilize resources. Actively contribute to our efforts to secure the resources needed for growth. This includes leveraging your professional and personal networks to cultivate new donors, solicit funds, and secure in-kind or pro-bono services.
    • Provide expertise & perspective. Bring your unique skills (finance, marketing, DEI, etc.) to the table to solve organizational challenges.
    • Build the future. Help recruit new board members and support/evaluate the Executive Director to ensure strong leadership.
