    About The Porter Voice Collective

The Porter Voice Collective is a nonprofit human rights organization advocating for the labor rights, dignity, and visibility of porters and mountain workers in Peru, Nepal, and Tanzania. Through storytelling, research, and media, we work to amplify worker voices and challenge inequities in the global trekking industry.

We are currently seeking a Volunteer Board Member focused on Grants & Fundraising to support the organization’s sustainability and growth during an important stage of development.

    About the Role

This is a hands-on, working board position ideal for someone who wants to contribute their skills directly to a mission-driven organization. The Board Member will collaborate closely with the Executive Director, research team, and media team to support fundraising strategy and grant development aligned with our values and community-centered approach.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support grant research, identification, and prospecting
    • Assist with grant writing, proposal review, and reporting, as needed
    • Help develop and refine fundraising strategies aligned with organizational values
    • Advise on ethical and sustainable funding opportunities
    • Collaborate with the research team to ensure grant proposals are evidence-based
    • Work with the media and storytelling team to strengthen narrative components of proposals
    • Participate in board meetings and strategic planning discussions
    • Support overall board governance and organizational oversight

    Who We’re Looking For

    • Experience or interest in grants, fundraising, development, or nonprofit sustainability
    • Background in nonprofits, philanthropy, research, communications, or social justice fields
    • Strong writing, organizational, or strategic thinking skills
    • Alignment with labor rights, ethical tourism, and community-led advocacy
    • Willingness to be an active, engaged board member

Prior board experience is helpful but not required.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Meaningful leadership experience in an international human rights nonprofit
    • Direct involvement in shaping funding strategy and long-term sustainability
    • Collaboration with a passionate, interdisciplinary team
    • The opportunity to support ethical, community-centered change in the trekking industry
    • Board service credit and professional references

    Time Commitment

    • Approximately 5–8 hours per month
    • Quarterly board meetings (remote)
    • Flexible, project-based involvement

    Our Commitment

The Porter Voice Collective is committed to ethical storytelling, community-led advocacy, and inclusive leadership. We strongly encourage applications from individuals with lived experience, and from those historically underrepresented in nonprofit leadership.
