The Porter Voice Collective

  • Mission

The Porter Voice Collective is a human rights nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of porters and mountain workers within the global trekking and tourism industry.

We work to address systemic inequities by amplifying the voices of porters through ethical storytelling, advocacy, and community-led initiatives. Our approach centers the lived experiences of mountain workers, promotes fair labor practices, and raises awareness of the social and economic conditions that impact porters on and off the trail.

Operating in regions such as Peru, Nepal, and Tanzania, The Porter Voice Collective partners directly with porters, guides, and local communities to support safer working conditions, greater visibility, and long-term structural change within mountain tourism. We believe that a just and sustainable trekking industry must be grounded in respect, equity, and the leadership of those who sustain it.

    About Us

The Porter Voice Collective (PVC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of porters and mountain workers in the global trekking and tourism industry. We serve porters, guides, and local communities in regions such as Peru, Nepal, and Tanzania, partnering directly with them to ensure their voices are heard and their work is respected.

Our organization operates at the intersection of human rights advocacy, ethical storytelling, and community-led initiatives. Through documentary projects, research, and advocacy campaigns, we highlight the challenges porters face, from unsafe working conditions to inequitable labor practices, and we work to create meaningful structural change.

At PVC, our values are rooted in equity, justice, and respect for local knowledge and cultures. We believe in centering the lived experiences of those who sustain the trekking industry, empowering them as leaders and knowledge holders, rather than background labor. By raising awareness and mobilizing support, we aim to foster a more just, sustainable, and inclusive mountain tourism sector.

Volunteers and supporters play a critical role in our work — from storytelling and research to advocacy and outreach. Together, we strive to ensure that porters and mountain workers are recognized, protected, and celebrated for the essential role they play in connecting people with the world’s mountains.
