    Description

Volunteer Opportunity: Music & Memory Program Leader

Do you have a passion for music and a heart for helping others? Sanctuary Hospice is seeking a compassionate and organized volunteer to help launch and lead our Music & Memory® Program, bringing comfort, connection, and joy to patients through personalized music.

We are excited to introduce this program and are seeking a dedicated volunteer to help bring it to life—guiding it through full implementation and beyond.

This volunteer will play a key role in shaping the program and helping bring it to life.

The Music & Memory Program uses individualized playlists to support patients living with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and other serious illnesses. Music has the power to unlock memories, reduce anxiety, and improve quality of life—and this role is essential to making that happen.

    Volunteer Responsibilities:

      • Help develop, coordinate, and lead the Music & Memory program
      • Create and manage personalized music playlists for patients
      • Assist with organizing and maintaining program devices (iPods/headphones)
      • Collaborate with hospice staff and other volunteers
      • Provide guidance and support to patients and families using the program

    Ideal Volunteer Qualities:

      • Love of music and its therapeutic impact
      • Compassionate, patient, and reliable
      • Comfortable with basic technology (training provided)
      • Strong organizational and communication skills

    Time Commitment & Location

      • Approximately 4 hours per week during program development
      • Occasional in-person meetings at Chicagoland-area offices and patient facilities

    What We Provide:

      • Free training and program support
      • An opportunity to build and lead a meaningful program from the ground up
      • Ongoing guidance from our hospice team

Volunteers must complete a volunteer application, online volunteer training, background check, TB test and drug screening (provided free of charge).

This is a unique opportunity to help launch a program that will bring comfort and connection—one song at a time.
