    Description

    Volunteer Call for Winter Programming

The African American Art and Culture Complex (AAACC) is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support our programs and exhibitions from December through February. AAACC is a community-focused arts and cultural center in San Francisco’s historic Fillmore District. We celebrate and uplift Black art, creativity, and community through exhibitions, workshops, events, and cultural programming for all ages.

We have several volunteer opportunities available this winter. Volunteers may sign up for one role or all three roles, depending on their interests.

    Volunteer Roles

    1. Welcome Desk Volunteer

Welcome Desk Volunteers serve as the first point of contact for all visitors. You will help set the tone for a warm, welcoming, and culturally rich experience at AAACC.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Greeting guests as they enter the building
    • Sharing basic information about current exhibitions, programs, and the layout of the building
    • Answering simple questions and directing visitors to event locations
    • Supporting the overall welcoming atmosphere at AAACC
    1. Arts Programming Support Volunteer

Arts Programming Support Volunteers help bring to life AAACC’s most joyful winter programs, including our annual Wakanda Winter Wonderland and other seasonal events. You will play an important behind the scenes role and help ensure guests have a smooth and enjoyable experience.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Assisting with setup and cleanup for programs and events
    • Checking in guests and supporting artists, presenters, and staff
    • Offering light logistical and hospitality support
    • Helping shared spaces remain tidy, welcoming, and ready for community use
    1. Gallery Guide and Visitor Engagement Volunteer

Gallery Guides are our storytellers and ambassadors. In this role you will help visitors connect with the art, history, and creativity that fill AAACC’s halls.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Leading short tours of the building and exhibitions across all floors
    • Sharing key talking points and highlighting artwork and community history
    • Engaging visitors of all ages in conversations about the art and AAACC’s mission
    • Helping maintain an accessible, warm, and educational gallery environment

All volunteers will receive an orientation and talking points so they feel comfortable guiding visitors.

    Shifts

Volunteer shifts are two to four hours, with opportunities available on weekdays and weekends. Volunteers may choose the shifts that work best for their schedule.

    Compensation and Benefits

This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. Volunteers will receive hands-on experience in an arts and cultural environment, along with AAACC swag as a thank you for supporting our community.

    What Volunteers Can Expect

    • A building walkthrough and orientation
    • Support from AAACC staff during each shift
    • Opportunities to engage with community members, artists, and visitors
    • A chance to serve as a cultural ambassador within a historic San Francisco arts hub
    • Light snacks available in our employee lounge during your shift

Thank you for considering supporting AAACC. We appreciate you and hope to work with you soon.
