Be A Career Coach With New Neighbors!

Since 2001, New Neighbors (NN) has supported refugees and immigrants across Northern Virginia by fostering a welcoming, family-like environment where students build English skills, confidence, and community. Given that many of our students want to improve their English proficiency to acquire better job opportunities, we’re launching a Fall 2026 pilot Career Coaching Program to help participants advance their employment goals.

As a volunteer Career Coach, you’ll be paired one-on-one with an adult student to provide guidance and support as they navigate career pathways in the U.S. This 10-week hybrid program requires a minimum two-hour weekly commitment, with evening availability on a consistent night each week and occasional in-person events.

We’re seeking volunteers with at least one year of professional experience from multiple industries who are reliable, communicative, and demonstrate empathy and cultural sensitivity. Coaches will support career exploration, goal-setting, and job readiness using a structured curriculum while building meaningful relationships with immigrants and refugees in the Alexandria area.

In addition, Career Coaches will receive training, ongoing support, and networking opportunities—all while making a lasting impact!

The onboarding process includes a volunteer interest survey, a virtual interview with a staff member, and an in-person background check appointment. Interviews will take place in April–July, with final selections and background checks taking place in June - August. Training will occur in August, and the program will launch in September 2026.
