Be A Career Coach With New Neighbors!

Since 2001, New Neighbors (NN) has supported refugees and immigrants across Northern Virginia by fostering a welcoming, family-like environment where students can strengthen their English skills, build confidence, and develop meaningful community connections. Recognizing that many students hope to improve their English proficiency to access better employment opportunities, we’re launching a new cohort of our Career Coaching Program in February 2027, following the success of our Fall 2026 pilot. The program is designed to equip participants with the guidance and support they need to advance their career goals.

As a volunteer Career Coach, you’ll be paired one-on-one with an adult student to provide guidance and support as they navigate career pathways in the U.S. This 10-week hybrid program requires a minimum two-hour weekly commitment, with evening availability on a consistent night each week and occasional in-person events.

We’re seeking volunteers with at least one year of professional experience from multiple industries who are reliable, communicative, and demonstrate empathy and cultural sensitivity. Coaches will support career exploration, goal-setting, and job readiness using a structured curriculum while building meaningful relationships with immigrants and refugees in the Alexandria area.

In addition, Career Coaches will receive training, ongoing support, and networking opportunities—all while making a lasting impact!

The onboarding process includes a volunteer interest survey, a virtual interview with a staff member, and an in-person background check appointment. Interviews and background checks will be conducted on a rolling basis as interest is received. Selected participants will receive virtual training before the program launches, which is anticipated for February 2027.
