    Description

    Asia Wild is seeking a dedicated and mission-driven Board Member with a legal background to support the organization’s governance, compliance, and strategic growth. This volunteer role is ideal for an attorney or legal professional who is passionate about wildlife conservation, nonprofit impact, and ethical organizational leadership.

    The Legal Board Member will help ensure that Asia Wild operates with strong governance, sound policies, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations while advancing the organization’s mission.

    Key Responsibilities

    Governance & Oversight

    • Serve as an active member of the Board of Directors.
    • Participate in board meetings, strategic planning, and major organizational decisions.
    • Help ensure the organization follows best practices in nonprofit governance.
    • Review and advise on bylaws, governance structures, and board policies.

    Legal Guidance

    • Provide general legal insight related to nonprofit operations.
    • Identify potential legal risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
    • Advise on contracts, partnerships, and agreements when appropriate.
    • Support regulatory compliance in jurisdictions relevant to the organization.

    Policy Development

    • Assist with drafting and reviewing organizational policies.
    • Ensure ethical, transparent, and legally sound decision-making.
    • Help maintain governance documentation and compliance frameworks.

    Strategic Support

    • Contribute expertise to support long-term sustainability and growth.
    • Provide perspective on international legal considerations where relevant.
    • Support leadership in evaluating new programs or partnerships.

    Advocacy & Representation

    • Act as an ambassador for the organization.
    • Help strengthen credibility with partners, donors, and stakeholders.
    • Promote the mission of wildlife conservation and protection.

    Time Commitment

    • Attend regular board meetings (typically quarterly).
    • Participate in occasional committee meetings or consultations.
    • Estimated commitment: 5-10 hour per month.

    Qualifications

    • Legal professional (attorney, legal counsel, compliance professional, or similar).
    • Interest in nonprofit governance and conservation.
    • Ability to review documents and provide clear guidance.
    • Collaborative mindset and willingness to support a mission-driven team.
    • Prior board experience is helpful but not required.

    Preferred Experience

    • Nonprofit or NGO law
    • International law or cross-border regulatory experience
    • Environmental or conservation-related legal issues
    • Policy or governance development
