    Description

    The Heart of Art is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to using the performing arts as a gateway to foster literacy, education, creativity, and community building. We empower children and youth through programs that combine the magic of storytelling with the transformative power of the arts.

    • Term of Service- April 1, 2026 – April 1, 2028 (Two-Year Term)
    • Annual Board ContributionGive-or-Get Requirement: $1,000 per year
    • Location PreferenceDMV residents strongly preferred (Washington, DC; Maryland; Virginia)

    General Expectations

    All board members are expected to actively participate in governance, attend meetings, support fundraising, maintain confidentiality, and provide strategic guidance for organizational growth.

    The Chair of Arts & Program Development provides creative and strategic leadership to ensure The Heart of Art’s programming remains innovative, impactful, and mission-aligned.

    This role helps shape the artistic and educational direction of literacy-based performing arts initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Design & Quality

    • Provide input on program creation and improvement Bylaws- HOA Inaugural Year
    • Ensure arts-based literacy programs reflect best practices and youth needs

    Evaluation & Impact

    • Develop metrics and tools to measure program success
    • Support continuous improvement and outcomes-driven programming

    Innovation & Expansion

    • Brainstorm new arts initiatives and performance-based literacy opportunities
    • Support teaching artist engagement and curriculum alignment

    Mission Alignment

    • Ensure programming reflects The Heart of Art’s commitment to literacy, equity, and community building

    Qualifications

    • Experience in arts education, theatre, youth programming, or curriculum development
    • Creative thinker with strong collaboration skills
    • DMV residency preferred

    Time Commitment

    Approximately 15–20 hours/month
