    Description

    Myositis Support and Understanding Association (MSU) is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Financial Assistance Specialist to support individuals and families affected by myositis. This role plays an important part in ensuring that patients experiencing financial hardship can access the support and resources they need.

    Time Commitment: Approximately 2–5 hours per week, depending on the number of financial assistance applications received.

    Responsibility

    The Financial Assistance Specialist is responsible for acting in the best interests of the Association while following MSU’s policies and procedures regarding the Financial Assistance Program. The Specialist will bring an informed and inclusive perspective when reviewing applications and assisting applicants.

    This role includes reviewing applications, communicating with applicants and the assistance team, and providing follow-up support throughout the application process.

    The work directly impacts individuals and families affected by myositis who need financial assistance. These efforts help improve their quality of life and access to needed resources.

    Principal Duties

    • Screen and evaluate financial assistance applications
    • Communicate with applicants and the assistance team regarding application status
    • Ensure all required documentation has been received from applicants
    • Complete application checklists and forward completed files to the Manager or Treasurer for review and approval
    • Prepare check requisitions for approved applications and submit them to the Manager for approval
    • Maintain records and documentation in the JotForm database for each application
    • Assist the Financial Assistance Program Manager, Treasurer, and Board of Directors as requested

    Qualifications

    The following are considered key qualifications for this role:

    • Knowledge of myositis (preferred but not required)
    • Understanding of and commitment to MSU’s mission, vision, and the goals of the Financial Assistance Program
    • Associate degree in a related field preferred but not required
    • Strong customer service skills
    • High attention to detail
    • Ability to handle difficult situations and conversations with professionalism and compassion
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Computer proficiency including Teams, Word, and Excel; familiarity with JotForm is a plus
    • Excellent verbal, listening, analytical, and written communication skills
    • Ability to work independently while also collaborating as part of a team
    • Willingness to learn and conduct research when needed
