    Description

    South Street Cycles, Volunteer

    (Peak months: May-August; Non-peak months: October - April)

    As a South Street Cycles - Volunteer, you will assist the Bike Shop Director and South Street Cycles Program Coordinator in various aspects of programming. Individuals looking to serve as a South Street Cycles, Volunteers should be open and approachable and seek to truly connect with the individuals we serve. In addition, an overall willingness to learn and be helpful is necessary to succeed in this role.

    Your specific responsibilities will vary depending on the nature of the engagement and audience. However, you will be expected to:

    • Meet the minimum required criteria for contractors and volunteers, including background screenings, as laid out by our various partner organizations.
    • Actively participate in the planning and executing of cycling activities, events, and the repair of bikes trailside as needed. Be physically capable of riding a minimum of 10-12 miles at an average pace of 8-10 mph and be able to lift 25 lbs.
    • Our various partners may include but are not limited to: Better Kenmore Summit Metro Parks, Just A Dad From Akron, CSB Ministries, AMHA, CJR3, Grace Church - Barberton, Sprockids, Girls On Gear, APS, Hoban, Lippman & Waldorf Schools, and Ray’s Indoor Mnt. Bike.
    • Events may include but are not limited to: Summit Metro Parks programmed cycling activities, Kenmore First Fridays, Summit Lake Farmers Market, SSM pick-up rides, BMX Jams, TNR, Cranksgiving, various parades, and learning to ride/safety schools.
    • Assists in community outreach and organizational visibility efforts by: canvassing, tabling, and attending community/cycling events & meetings.
    • Assists with event setup: Helps set up registration booths, refreshment stations, and signage along routes. Checks in participants, distributes packets, and provides information/overview about/of the event.
    • Route Support: Directs riders, ensuring they stay on the correct path and are adhering to safety protocols at all times. Provides first aid if necessary or contacts medical support if needed. Has knowledge of and is capable of riding in various positions: Lead, Sweep, etc.
    • Clean-up & post-event duties: Assists in packing equipment and cleaning up the event sites after the rides have concluded. Participates in wrap-up meetings, provides feedback, and helps with follow-up tasks.
