    Description

    ABOUT LITERACY VOLUNTEERS OF ILLINOIS

Literacy Volunteers of Illinois, Inc. (LVI) is a nonprofit organization based in downtown Chicago that works to improve literacy and educational outcomes across Illinois. Through partnerships with community organizations, educational institutions, and volunteers, LVI supports literacy programming, tutoring, mentoring, and educational opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Through the VOCAL AmeriCorps program, LVI recruits and places AmeriCorps Members at partner organizations, known as host sites, where they provide direct service and support literacy initiatives within their communities.

    ROLE DESCRIPTION

The VOCAL AmeriCorps Member is a national service position placed at a designated LVI partner organization (host site). There, they support literacy programming and educational initiatives based on the needs of the organization and the communities it serves.

Depending on the host site assignment, responsibilities may include tutoring youth or adults, facilitating small-group learning sessions, assisting with educational workshops and activities, supporting volunteer recruitment and coordination, conducting community outreach, maintaining accurate program records, and helping plan literacy-related events.

Members collaborate with host-site staff, volunteers, and community partners to create welcoming and inclusive learning environments. They also participate in LVI and AmeriCorps trainings, meetings, and other program activities throughout their term of service.

    SERVICE COMMITMENT

Members must be able to commit to the full term of service through August 31, 2027.
