    Hidden Lake Gardens Volunteer Program

    Hidden Lake Gardens volunteers are a dedicated and passionate community of individuals who help maintain, enhance, and share the beauty of Hidden Lake Gardens for the benefit and education of the public. Each year, more than 200 volunteers contribute thousands of service hours across our property—including the Reach for the Sky Canopy Walk, Bonsai Courtyard, Conservatory, Hosta Hillside, Gatehouse, the Harper Collection of Dwarf and Rare Conifers, and a wide range of special events and educational programs.

    Volunteer Opportunities

    Hidden Lake Gardens offers a variety of volunteer roles to match different interests, skills, and schedules:

    🌿 Horticulture-Related Opportunities

    Help care for and improve the gardens through hands-on work in areas such as:

    • Conservatory Garden Stewards
    • Grounds and Outdoor Garden Stewards
    • Hosta Hillside
    • Harper Collection of Dwarf and Rare Conifers
    • Special horticulture projects and seasonal plant care

    🎓 Docents & Educational Opportunities

    Support visitor learning and engagement:

    • Docent Tour Guides (working alongside our Education Coordinator)
    • HLG Ambassadors assisting in the Conservatory and Visitors Center

    🎉 Events & Programs

    Assist with set-up, guest interaction, logistics, and event support for:

    • Public programs
    • Seasonal festivals
    • Special events throughout the year

    🐦 Bird Monitoring & Conservation Support

    Participate in ecological monitoring that supports habitat stewardship and conservation efforts.

    🌳 Reach for the Sky Canopy Walk Ambassadors

    Welcome guests, enhance visitor experience, answer questions, and help ensure the safety and enjoyment of all visitors exploring our Canopy Walk.

    Requirements

    • Complete our online volunteer application
    • Undergo a Criminal Background Check (required for all volunteers)
    • Some positions may require additional training
