    Description

    Shelter Advocate

Shelter Advocates are crucial to assisting staff with answering the support line. Relieving staff from answering the support line and assisting residents allows them to meet with clients, go to court, take walk-ins, and more! In 2023, the support line took over 2700 calls. Volunteers will learn about the dynamics of abuse, how to be an advocate, learn office skills, work on listening skills, and more!

Volunteers provide information about safety planning, referrals, community resources, emergency shelter, and our domestic abuse and sexual assault services. Some duties include answering the 24-hour support line, assisting residents living in the emergency shelter, and providing support to callers and residents. Hours are generally weekdays between 7 am and 5 pm. Previous experience is not required, training will be provided. Must be 18 years old.

This role is mainly stationary, available to sit or stand as needed, but needs to operate an analog phone, a desktop computer utilizing Outlook email and internet, and buttons to open the door.
