WHAT DOES A HOSPICE VOLUNTEER IN PATIENT SUPPORT DO?
Patient needs vary, but these are common things we do:
- Listen to stories and learn about pictures from a photo album
- Have a conversation about their life
- Sit with them and listen to music or watch TV
- Play games or do crafts
Patient's needs may vary from visit to visit so being a positive and flexible friend is the best way to be prepared!
WHAT VOLUNTEERS DON’T DO
Our volunteers do not give any medical care. Each patient has a care team of doctors, nurses, CNA's, spiritual care givers, and caseworkers who meet their more complex needs. Volunteers do not lift patients or transport.
WHERE DOES THE VOLUNTEER WORK TAKE PLACE
Our patients live in specialized care communities, group home communities or in their own home in the Phoenix Metro. The volunteer will travel to the patient’s location so we try to match you with someone close to you.
REQUIREMENTS TO SERVE:
- Valid Arizona Driver's License
- Generally, you must be aged 18+. Youth can volunteer if they have an adult serve with them. It's a great way to help others together!
- A negative Tuberculosis test result (we can do the test for free in our office)
- Background check
- Drug Screening
- Two-hour in person training class in our office located at Baseline and Gilbert
- Ability to volunteer at least one hour each week, but you are free to do more if you want!
WHAT THIS OPPORTUNITY OFFERS:
- Volunteer hours and documentation, if needed
- Training and education about what hospice is and how we take care of people at this stage of life.
- An amazing supportive organization that truly appreciates your heart to serve (and understands the challenges)
Will you join us in making a difference?
