    Description

Serve with Compassion in Cumming, GA — Hospice Companions Wanted 💙

    💛 About the Role

As a Hospice Volunteer Companion, you will offer non‑clinical, emotional support to patients receiving end‑of‑life care. Your presence can bring peace, connection, and dignity to someone who may feel alone or overwhelmed. Volunteers visit patients in their homes, assisted‑living communities, or nursing facilities throughout the Cumming area.

    🌿 What Volunteers Do

Volunteers choose the activities they feel comfortable with, which may include:

    • Friendly visits, conversation, or sharing stories
    • Reading aloud, playing music, or quiet companionship
    • Supporting patients with dementia through calming engagement
    • Sitting with patients while caregivers rest or attend to errands
    • Helping with life review or legacy projects (letters, memories, photos)
    • Providing a peaceful presence during the final days (vigil team optional)
    • Optional: pet therapy, veteran-to-veteran visits, or massage therapy (if qualified)

You never provide medical or hands‑on care — just your time, presence, and kindness.

    💼 Time Commitment

We offer flexible scheduling to fit your life.

Most volunteers give 1–2 hours per week, but even a small amount of time can create a lasting impact.

    🎓 Training & Support

All volunteers receive free training covering:

    • Hospice philosophy & the role of volunteers
    • Communication and emotional support
    • Boundaries and safety
    • Understanding dementia & end-of-life comfort
    • What to expect when visiting patients

Our team provides ongoing support every step of the way.

    🌎 Who Can Volunteer?

    This role is perfect for:

    • Community members looking for meaningful service
    • Retirees
    • College or graduate students
    • Individuals exploring healthcare, social work, counseling, or ministry
    • Veterans interested in Veteran‑to‑Veteran support
    • Anyone with a warm heart and a desire to help others

Must be 17+ and willing to complete a background check and TB test (provided at no cost).
