There are few volunteer service experiences which provide the opportunity for grace and illumination that hospice patient care does. Patience, compassion, nonjudgment, presence, openness, kindness and gratitude…we see our own very best qualities revealed and shared as we give companionship and dignity to those nearing the end of their lives.

Interested? Gentiva Hospice (formerly Odyssey Hospice) is seeking volunteers to provide such companionship and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families in Chicago and suburbs.

As a patient care volunteer, you may also want to share your special interests in reading; craft work and art; life review such as recording oral histories and scrapbooking; music; and more. Additionally, you may use your certification in horticultural therapy, art therapy, or pet therapy to enhance life quality.

Administrative volunteers are sorely needed in our Arlington Heights office, and may enable you as a volunteer to develop a range of excellent skills.

Being a hospice volunteer means being part of an interdisciplinary team that focuses on the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families. Gentiva Hospice offers an extensive orientation and ongoing volunteer support.
