The Richmond SPCA's pilot Clinic for Compassionate Care became the permanent Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital in January 2016. The response to our pilot operation was tremendous, with over 7,000 pet patients served annually since 2012, and many of you have thanked us for providing this service that you and your pets had long hoped would be available to the Richmond community. We will continue to provide high-quality, low-cost full-service care to our patients and the people who love them in our new, expanded space.
The Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital is a full-service veterinary hospital providing high-quality care at a low-cost for pets of income-qualified families in the Greater Richmond region (Richmond City and the Counties of Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield and Goochland). Our mission is to ensure that families of all means have access to treatment options they can afford for their canine and feline companions. As an expansion of the Richmond SPCA's pet-retention services, the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital will help pets stay with their families while enjoying a greater quality of life.
In addition to caring for pets of income-qualified families, the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital will also provide treatment for pets belonging to area municipal shelters, pets adopted from the Richmond SPCA, pets of Richmond SPCA employees and pets referred to the hospital by other veterinarians.
