  • About Us

The Georgia Capitol Museum seeks to preserve and interpret the history of the Georgia Capitol itself as well as the events that have taken place within its walls. The Museum collects, maintains, and exhibits significant artifacts, including historic flags and works of art, and offers educational tours to visitors and school groups.

Some roles volunteers can expect to fulfill include:

    1. Leading tours of the Capitol.
    2. Answering questions at the tour desk, offering directions and guidance to Capitol visitors.
    3. Partnering with other Capitol agencies to offer programming to visitors.

Benefits of volunteering at the Georgia State Capitol Museum include:

    1. Guides inspire a passion for civic engagement in Georgia's next generation of voters.
    2. Guides contribute to the growth and educational reach of the Georgia Capitol Museum.
    3. Guides are members of a vibrant community of individuals dedicated to improving the civic engagement of Atlanta and beyond through education.

Volunteer positions offer opportunities to build skills, grow professionally, and contribute to strengthening our communities. The Georgia State Capitol Museum relies on volunteers to help serve thousands of visitors each year. They also make a big difference in the museum's ability to carry out the mission of preserving, protecting and sharing Georgia's political history. Our guides lead thousands of children and adults through the state's historic Capitol building each year, facilitating programs that connect the public with their history and government, and ensure tours are engaging, fun, and educational. The Georgia State Capitol Museum is among the state's top civics education sites for students and visitors alike. No previous knowledge of political science or history is required to become a docent! Candidates go through a two-month training program upon approval.
