East Side Learning Center

Sobre Nós

East Side Learning Center (ESLC) is a non-profit on the east side of St. Paul with the mission of unlocking each child's potential through the foundation of reading. Our Program goals are to be a major force in ensuring that all children have the opportunity to read at grade level by the end of 2nd grade, to empower children to be successful in school and society, and to assist parents in helping their children become the best readers possible. ESLC was founded in 2001 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame at the request of civic leaders in St. Paul to create an education partnership.

East Side Learning Center provides one-on-one reading tutoring at no cost to families for nearly 350 children, K-2nd grade, who are unable to get help elsewhere in five elementary schools on the east side of St. Paul. Of the students we serve, 95% are at or below the poverty line, 90% come from minority families, and nearly half do not speak English at home. Students enjoy individualized lesson plans with a caring adult Monday through Thursday for 30 to 45 minutes during or after school. Tutoring is during the school year and throughout the summer months.
