Spring is coming soon in many parts of the world, and with the new season comes renewed energy and boundless opportunities to start a community project or initiative in your area. 

Whether you’re in the very beginning of ideating plans for starting something new, or already have your community action plans in full swing, you may need to think about and plan ways to get some funding to advance your work. We’ve spoken to a great many of our past participants who have encountered this need and, understandably, want guidance on how and where to access funding for one-time or ongoing projects. In this edition of our newsletter, we’re offering some starting tidbits to help you get started.

SESSIONS

We’re happy to announce that one-on-one coaching sessions will resume on March 31!

These sessions are designed to give you the focused support and practical guidance you need to take the first step with your community initiative. We work specifically with individuals who are starting a community project in their area and are in the idea or very early planning stage.

If you’re exploring how to move forward with a project or need help brainstorming ways to address an issue in your community, this is a great place to begin.

ONLINE ACTION HUB

In addition to our quarterly publication, we’re launching an Online Action Hub to keep you inspired and supported in your journey to community action.

Inside the Hub, you’ll find ongoing tips, stories, tools, and ready-to-use templates to guide you in thinking about, launching, or moving forward with your community initiative. Our online hub will be updated regularly — make sure to bookmark it for future reference.

You’ll also have access to past newsletters, so you never miss valuable insights or opportunities.

IDEALIST DAYS

Looking for a way to meet like-minded idealists and do good in your area? Idealist Days are monthly days of action (3/3, 4/4, 5/5, etc.) that provide a way for you to connect with others, locally and globally, and to use one day each month to take whatever action you’d like toward making a positive difference in the world. We invite you to join us for the next Idealist Day on 4/4 (April 4). You can be part of it by hosting an in-person or virtual Idealist Day meetup to connect with others and invite them to join you in taking action.

Upcoming Opportunities 👀

FUNDING

💎 Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism is a global organization that provides fast, flexible funding and partnership support to frontline feminist movements that aid women, trans, and non-binary activists. Through their Opportunity Grants, applicants can receive up to $ 8,000 to fund advocacy work, raise awareness, and respond to urgent or unanticipated situations. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Click here for more information.

🦉 Wild Wonder Foundation encourages nature connection and conservation through art and community. Their Club Micro Grant Program provides seed funding of $250.00 to individuals starting or growing nature journaling in their communities. Applications open on May 1, 2026 

🗽CitizensNYC awards $5000 microgrants to individuals working on community-building projects that aim to improve their neighborhoods, strengthen local leadership, and build community partnerships in New York City.  The next cycle for their Community Leaders Grant opens in May 2026. 🔌  The Sparkplug Foundation provides seed funding and one-time micro-grants to early-stage grassroots organizations and projects working in the areas of education, music, and community organizing, addressing injustice and systemic change. Awards range from $1000 up to $20,000. The deadline to submit a letter of intent and apply is May 1. Click here to learn more. 

😃 Giving Joy provides women entrepreneurs and community leaders with one-time microgrants of up to $500.00, looking to start or expand their community projects, businesses, or nonprofits. This grant is designed to aid initiatives that support women, girls, and families. Their first cycle applications open on April 1. Click here for more information.

🙌 The Vilcek Foundation awards to U.S.-based nonprofits that support immigrant contributions in the arts, sciences, education, and social sciences. Grants awarded up to $20,000. Applications are being accepted through April 30. Click here to learn more.
