Who’s Hiring? 10 Animal Nonprofits
This week, we’re sharing opportunities to join organizations around the U.S. (and one in Bolivia!) in their missions to ensure the safety and well-being of animals.
If you’re interested in joining a team that rescues felines in urban areas, establishes wildlife sanctuaries, or promotes healthy aquatic ecosystems, check out some of these current opportunities with nonprofits devoted to animal advocacy and conservation efforts.
1. Lower Columbia Fish Enhancement Group, Vancouver, WA
This organization’s mission is to promote recovery of salmonid populations and healthy aquatic ecosystems by restoring river and stream habitats, enhancing local streams with salmon carcass nutrients, and engaging youth and adults in hands-on salmon and riparian stewardship and education. They are hiring an Executive Director for a hybrid role.
2. Bat Conservation International, Remote Roles
This nonprofit recognizes how much bats contribute to the health of our natural environment and human economies, which is why they work to conserve the world’s bats and their ecosystems to ensure a healthy planet. They are hiring a Geospatial Team Lead and a Director of People & Culture for remote positions.
3. SPCA International, New York, NY
This nonprofit advances the safety and well-being of animals through awareness, advocacy, and action worldwide. They are hiring a Donor Support Specialist for a remote role, as well as an Office Administrator, who will work in a hybrid capacity.
4. Portland Audubon, Portland, OR
This organization utilizes conservation advocacy, environmental education, and wildlife rehabilitation to promote the understanding, enjoyment, and protection of native birds, other wildlife, and their habitats. They are hiring a Klamath Program Coordinator and a Director of Development; both positions will be performed in a hybrid capacity.
5. Flatbush Cats, Kings County, NY
This nonprofit is on a mission to end the cat overpopulation crisis in Brooklyn and beyond. They provide the resources and support that rescue/trap-neuter-return (TNR) volunteers and community members need to give cats a better life. Flatbush Cats is hiring a Director of Development to work in a hybrid capacity.
6. Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi (CIWY), Cerro Grande, Bolivia
This NGO is made up of committed social-impact professionals and volunteers from Bolivia and around the world. CIWY currently manages three wildlife sanctuaries— Machia (Cochabamba), Ambue Ari (Santa Cruz) and Jacj Cuisi (Rurrenabaque)—in order to offer refuge to wild animals rescued from trafficking. They are hiring a Head Veterinarian for a contract role, which will be performed onsite in Bolivia.
7. National Wildlife Federation Headquarters, Remote Roles
This nonprofit is the nation's largest member-supported conservation organization, working with state affiliates, community leaders, hunters, anglers, tribes, youth, parents, gardeners, and conservationists under the firm belief that people everywhere can make a critical difference for the future of wildlife. They are hiring for four open positions on Idealist, all of which will be performed in a remote capacity: Agriculture Outreach Specialist, Manager, Strategic Partnerships and Engagement, Conservation Postdoctoral Research Specialist, and Digital Coordinator, Public Lands and Sporting.
8. Seacology, Berkeley, CA
This award-winning nonprofit operates with the sole purpose of preserving the environments, cultures, and habitats of islands throughout the world. They are hiring a Communications and Administrative Assistant to work in a hybrid capacity.
9. Last Chance for Animals, Remote Role
This nonprofit is an animal protection organization that advocates for conscious and informed lifestyle decisions and is committed to disseminating truthful information about animal abuse in all levels of society. They are hiring an Undercover Investigator for a remote position.
10. Yale University Center for Biodiversity and Global Change, New Haven, CT
This university center brings together researchers and educators from the Yale community and beyond to study Earth’s biodiversity, inform conservation efforts, and learn about where species are, how they move, and how they adapt in a changing world. They are hiring a Head of Partnerships for a hybrid role.
