City of Seattle Office for Education
The City of Seattle Office for Education (OFE) administers the Families and Education Levy. The Families and Education Levy has been renewed by the voters four times, most recently in fall 2011. This Levy will provide $235 million dollars in funding over the next seven years to support academic success of children through investments in early childhood; elementary, middle and high school academic support; and school-based health clinics and nurses.
The Seattle Office for Education, as a representative of the Mayor and City Council, invests in “outcomes” in all of these program areas. Outcomes include: readiness for school, academic achievement and reduction of the achievement gap, and increasing the graduation rate. OFE develops and administers performance contracts and agreements for services, oversees contract implementation, monitors progress towards achieving outcomes and provides guidance and direction to grantees as necessary. OFE is a data-driven organization that believes in practicing ongoing quality improvement.
