TThe Choice is managing an immediate 6-month contract for our client, a large professional membership in the scientific and sustainable energy space.
This role will work with the member experience team to assess, grow, and strengthen year-round member engagement. This is an ideal opportunity for a human centered user design professional who enjoys moving from discovery and insight generation to concept development and validation.
Successful candidates will bring experience in user research, service design, UX/product design, or a related field, along with a demonstrated ability to translate research findings into tangible solutions.
- Timeframe: September 2026-February 2027, approximately. There could be potential for a temporary-to-hire scenario.
- Schedule: 9AM-5PM, although some additional hours can be expected around the membership conference
- Dates: Candidates must be fully available for travel for the membership conference December 6th11

- The organization works remotely however candidates should reside in the Washington DMV area.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience applying rigorous human centered user research methodologies and translating insights into actionable, user-centered solutions and concepts.
- Experience in user research, human centered program design, product design, UX design, or a related discipline, including conducting interviews, facilitating workshops, and collaborating with product or development teams to deliver successful solutions.
- Ability to quickly understand and engage specialized professional audiences, particularly within scientific, academic, or research-focused communities.
- Experience designing for membership organizations, associations, subscription-based services, nonprofits, or other relationship-driven business models is preferred.
- Proven ability to thrive in ambiguous environments, synthesize incomplete information, and make progress through iterative testing and validation.
- Strong critical thinking skills with the confidence to thoughtfully challenge assumptions and contribute strategic perspectives.
Job Duties:
- Conduct user research, interviews, workshops, and testing activities to gather insights and inform experience design initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to enhance member engagement and improve existing programs and services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, prototype, and validate user-centered solutions.
- Translate research findings into actionable recommendations, concepts, and strategic initiatives.
- Prepare documentation, presentations, and handoff materials to support implementation by internal teams.
- Partner with stakeholders across the organization to support both immediate priorities and long-term engagement goals.
