    Description

The Samuel Lawrence Foundation (SLF) is an environmental nonprofit based in Solana Beach, CA working at the intersection of science, arts, and education. Our flagship issue is the nuclear waste left behind at the decommissioned San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS). Since its shutdown in 2013, 3.6 million pounds of nuclear waste have remained onsite--only 100 feet from the Pacific Ocean. Our mission is to keep our community safe by advocating for onsite repair facilities, improved monitoring, and policy solutions that move the waste off the beach.

    Benefits

As SLF's San Clemente Community Liaison, you will serve as our eyes, ears, and voice in San Clemente - one of the communities closest to San Onofre. You will represent SLF at local government and civic meetings, build relationships with community members and organizations, and help grow our volunteer network in the area. This is a dynamic, people-facing role for someone who is passionate about environmental advocacy and comfortable showing up, speaking up, and following through.

You will not be working alone. SLF's remote team will support you with written materials, flyers, and outreach toolkits, research, and administative backup every step of the way.

    What You'll Do:

    • Attend monthly San Clemente Chamber of Commerce meeting, town halls, environmental committee meetings on behalf of SLF
    • Make public comment at gov't and civic meetings, representing SLF's position on nuclear waste policy.
    • Keep SLF informed of local developments
    • Build & maintain network in San Clemente - connecting with residents, businesses, schools, and organizations.
    • Recruit, engage, and retain local volunteers in coordination with SLF's volunteer program
    • Help plan and launch canvassing events and community education effort

    Requirements:

    • Must live in San Clemente or be deeply familiar with the area
    • Strong communicator
    • Fast learner - you will be trained on SLF's content and talking points
    • Comfortable using digital platforms (email, social media, Google Workspace)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Customer service or community facing experience
    • Current student (College credit available)

    To Apply:

    • Submit resume and brief cover letter explaining your connection to San Clemente and interest in environmental advocacy. We want to learn more about you!

Letter of recommendation upon completion, volunteer opportunities; College credit available, but please indicate the requirements on your application.
