    ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

    NJ LEEP is a college access and success program for low-income and first-generation students from the greater Newark area. NJ LEEP currently serves middle school students, high school students, college students, and family members. We help students perform at high academic levels by building skills through law-related and other educational programs, developing the habits necessary for college success and community leadership, and offering exposure to colleges, careers, and role models who have achieved professional success.     POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Externship Instructor will work with rising 10th grade students in the NJ LEEP “Week-on-the-Job” summer program. The instructor will deliver interactive and student-centered lessons designed to prepare students for their externship experiences, coordinate the daily logistics of externship placements, and supervise students participating in virtual externships.

    The program runs for six weeks and requires a commitment of 40 hours per week from June 29th to August 7th (1 week of training and 5 weeks of programming).

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop and/or refine existing curriculum designed to prepare students for externship experiences. Deliver highly engaging lessons during the first and last weeks of student summer programming when they are not placed at externships.
    • Coordinate with the External Engagement team to manage the day-to-day logistics of student placements at externships.
    • Supervise students participating in virtual externship experiences.
    • On days when all Week-on-the-Job students are participating in offsite externships, the Externship Instructor will support instruction and student supervision for other grade levels.
    • Support & supervise non-academic programming as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree
      • Ability to engage students and teach effectively
      • Strong organizational and time management skills
      • Must be available on all of the NJ LEEP summer program days without any prior scheduled commitments during the hours of program operation

    Preferred Qualifications

      • High-school teacher certification OR at least 1 year of relevant teaching experience.

    Compensation: Compensation for the summer starts at $1000 per week, paid biweekly.
